Our Activities
Our activities reflect a commitment to advance sustainable, scalable solutions against the most pernicious threats to agriculture and food security by facilitating access and reducing barriers to adoption.
DISCOVER > ADVANCE > DELIVER
With core competencies in molecular plant immunity, 2Blades discovers new ways to track down novel immune receptors in a broad range of plants against the most intractable and damaging plant pathogens and pests affecting the world’s crops. These common receptors warn plants when danger is present and trigger their innate defenses. Most often, disease results when plants simply lack receptors to certain pathogens or when pathogens bypass defenses. But receptor genes can be added to a crop’s genome, effectively ‘vaccinating’ it.
With additional competence in reduction-to-practice and business development, 2Blades advances durable resistance directly in crops. We have achieved resistance to the major diseases of wheat, soybean, potato, and tomato, validating and de-risking the potential for downstream partners.
Since inception, we have led the development of over 25 technical advances with more than 50 partners in 20 countries, delivering solutions into the hands of partners to bring to market for commercial and small-holder farmers alike.
Current Activities
2Blades establishes and manages development programs addressing significant unsolved crop disease problems in collaboration with leading research institutions around the world. We partner with foundations, companies, and international agricultural development organizations that have effective track records for delivering improved varieties into the hands of growers.
