Josiah Musembi Mutuku

Josiah joined 2Blades in July, 2022, from his previous role as Director of Research at the Central and West African Virus Epidemiology (WAVE) Institute based in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire. At WAVE, he helped to implement science strategy across 10 Central and West African countries. His work focused on the mitigation of diseases in roots and tuber crops. Before joining WAVE, Josiah worked at the Biosciences eastern and central Africa-International Livestock Research Institute (BecA-ILRI) Hub in Nairobi, Kenya. At the BecA Hub, Josiah was researching and advancing tools to mitigate against transboundary viral diseases in smallholder common bean systems in East Africa. Josiah contributed to capacity building efforts at the BecA Hub though his involvement as a supervisor of visiting scientists and fellows in the African Biosciences Challenge Fund (ABCF) capacity building platform. Prior to joining the BecA Hub, Josiah was a JSPS postdoctoral fellow at the Riken Institute, Yokohama, Japan where he was researching the mechanisms of resistance against parasitic plants using rice and Striga as models.
Josiah obtained his Ph.D. from Kagoshima University, Japan
